Director John Edwards to coach 14-1 team
We are excited to announce Director John Edwards will once again head coach our 14-1 team and lead master coaching for the middle school age group!
Erin Hughes
Erin began playing indoor volleyball in 2003. During her prep career she played every position for at least one full season, receiving Nevada prep all-state honors as a middle blocker in 2006 and as a right side hitter/setter in 2007. She played club volleyball at Nevada Juniors for Bob Kelly, former USAV National Coach of the Year. Her she finished her senior year leading Pinellas County (Florida) in kills and digs as an outside hitter and currently holds her high school’s record for both categories. Following high school, Erin received a scholarship to play collegiate volleyball at Florida Tech, where she was converted into a defensive specialist/libero. In her senior season, she helped lead her team to their best finish in 8 years. She finished the season ranked 6th in the Sunshine State Conference for aces. In addition to indoor volleyball, Erin has been playing on the beach volleyball circuit since moving to Florida in 2009.
Erin began her coaching career in 2013, when she served as a varsity assistant coach at PK Yonge High School in Gainesville, FL. She spent the next two high school seasons as the JV head coach and varsity assistant coach at Oak Hall High School in Gainesville, FL. From 2013-2014, Erin coached 12’s and 17’s club volleyball at Gainesville Juniors. During the 2015 club season, she served as a position coach at Vision Volleyball Club working defensively with the liberos and outside hitters of all 14’s through 18’s teams. Erin favorite part of coaching is the lasting relationships she builds with her players both on and off the court. She considers herself to be a positive role model for her players and bases her success off knowing that she has positively influenced at least one player along the way.
Erin understands the notion that student-athletes are students first and athletes second. She was recognized as the Civil Engineering Student of the Year during her junior and senior years of college. She graduated 3rd in her class, receiving her B.S. in Civil Engineering with Cum Laude honors in May 2013. She attended the University of Florida for graduate studies in Architecture from 2013-2015. She is currently working full time as a forensic structural engineer, while continuing her graduate studies in Civil Engineering at Kennesaw State University.
Dominique Louis
Dominique Louis has been involved with the sport of volleyball since age 12. As a young boy with strong leadership skills and passion for success he quickly became the captain of a major private school in Port-au-Prince Haiti and remained captain through his senior year of high school. Dominique is a 4 time national team selection for the Haitian National Team and successfully competed in many major international tournaments like the Norceca, Cazova, etc.
After moving to the United States, although he did not play in college he continued to play at a high level and expand his knowledge of the game practicing with his friends at NJIT and Rutgers University, and played in several tournaments in the NY/NJ area.
Dominique’s priorities changed when his son was born and he shifted his focus to family and a career. Although physically away from volleyball, his love for the game only grew stronger. Dominique continued to share his knowledge and experience working with co-ed teams at the YMCA, where he would workout.
More recently, he started coaching as a volunteer parent assistant at Cherokee High School with the Varsity team. The players and parents took notice to Dominique’s passion and experience as a coach, and soon he started training players from the JV and middle school teams as well. Word spread fast about Dominique’s enthusiastic, team oriented coaching style and ability to quickly develop players. He was recruited by several clubs and chose to work with Crossfire for the 2016-2017 season. Not only did he coach the team, he helped assist the club from an overall player development standpoint and did countless lessons for athletes hungry for more training.
Dominique intends to remain active as a coach and mentor in the volleyball community for years to come! We are very excited to have Dom as part of the 575 coaching and leadership team!
