Erin Hughes

Erin began playing indoor volleyball in 2003. During her prep career she played every position for at least one full season, receiving Nevada prep all-state honors as a middle blocker in 2006 and as a right side hitter/setter in 2007. She played club volleyball at Nevada Juniors for Bob Kelly, former USAV National Coach of the Year. Her she finished her senior year leading Pinellas County (Florida) in kills and digs as an outside hitter and currently holds her high school’s record for both categories. Following high school, Erin received a scholarship to play collegiate volleyball at Florida Tech, where she was converted into a defensive specialist/libero. In her senior season, she helped lead her team to their best finish in 8 years. She finished the season ranked 6th in the Sunshine State Conference for aces. In addition to indoor volleyball, Erin has been playing on the beach volleyball circuit since moving to Florida in 2009.

Erin began her coaching career in 2013, when she served as a varsity assistant coach at PK Yonge High School in Gainesville, FL. She spent the next two high school seasons as the JV head coach and varsity assistant coach at Oak Hall High School in Gainesville, FL. From 2013-2014, Erin coached 12’s and 17’s club volleyball at Gainesville Juniors. During the 2015 club season, she served as a position coach at Vision Volleyball Club working defensively with the liberos and outside hitters of all 14’s through 18’s teams. Erin favorite part of coaching is the lasting relationships she builds with her players both on and off the court. She considers herself to be a positive role model for her players and bases her success off knowing that she has positively influenced at least one player along the way.

Erin understands the notion that student-athletes are students first and athletes second. She was recognized as the Civil Engineering Student of the Year during her junior and senior years of college. She graduated 3rd in her class, receiving her B.S. in Civil Engineering with Cum Laude honors in May 2013. She attended the University of Florida for graduate studies in Architecture from 2013-2015.  She is currently working full time as a forensic structural engineer, while continuing her graduate studies in Civil Engineering at Kennesaw State University.
